Westover - Chapter Preview

Live.  I have to live.

The beasts were returning.  They made far more noise down here than they did outside sneaking around his camp, so Boudreaux heard them approach well before they arrived.  A sharp intake of breath behind him, and a stifled whimper near his right side, told him he was not the only prisoner abducted in the night.

His eyes were swollen and thoroughly crusted closed with dried blood.  They opened with effort, though, and fighting nausea, he looked around the dank space.  It was near black, but one of the many gifts from his elf mother was excellent eyesight in the dark.  Two children, a boy and a girl, though bound at the wrists and ankles, had somehow slithered together for warmth and comfort overnight.  Behind him an older man in torn clothing and manacles seemed delirious.

Boudreaux, too, was in some crude iron restraints. He had little doubt that at full strength, and given some time, he could break free of them.  The thought actually made him smile inside a bit.

They have no idea.
